From Texas to New Mexico...

My life started practically at the Gates of the Alamo. Like any good rebel, I ended up doing other things (like painting!) for twenty three years before visiting it. Now I'm in New Mexico, learning about more amazing history of both my Canary Island Spaniard surname, and how one of the youngest countries in the world, the U.S.A. herself, is growing up. I owe my life to the Land of Enchantment - She's given me her beauty, the support of her people, hot yoga, coffee shops, art shows, and more inspiration than I could repay. 
Miko is short for Michael K. Olivares. It's not a name I ever wanted to take the time signing paintings with. Maybe if I publish a book - But we'll see. Maybe give me ideas on what to write about!
I'm the tenth child of an amazing and strong and sensitive, powerful family. Ages before talk of 'Green' and 'Environment,' our mother was taking all of us shopping at GNC for pure water and herbs and vitamins. Our father encouraged all of us to be independent, and struggle for our own vision for our lives. Granparents were homeopathic doctors and city leaders. Even in the saddest moments, we have all been blessed to have healthy minds and bodies which could speak loudly if we were hurting or softly if we were in love.
I am proud to be their brother and their son - From my grandparents who farmed Indiana and who emigrated to San Antonio from Mexico and welcomed John F. Kennedy into town on the future President's campaign trail - It's the damndest thing in wakefullness to find we're all in the Stream of Life together.
