How I Made this Artwork
I painted "Play!" with Golden acrylic paints, Heavy Gel Medium (also by Golden), and Floetrol (an inexpensive acrylic medium that I discovered back in my early days was a superior artists' substitute for more expensive acrylic clear extenders, and, can be gotten at your nearest Lowe's Hardware store or Home Depot!).
Inspired by just marveling at how beautiful pictures of my first guitar was, a simple Yamaha steel string hollow body acoustic, I wanted to try and capture that same feeling of her music, but in a painting, since I no longer had her in my life anymore.
I started instead of drawing on the canvas as I had usually started my paintings, I poured Floetrol on the canvas and then started squeezing out paint from the Golden acrylic tubes directly onto the ocean of clear acrylic medium. After developing the larger color fields, I began dabbing globs of Heavy Gel acrylic medium on with my different sized palette knives, then my brush, to create wave patterns on the surface.
These wave patterns became so mesmerizing and hypnotic that they themselves began giving me the same beautiful sensations I remember having when I got my old guitar out, just to sit with her, and play!
Thinking about a Gift for Someone Special?
"Play!" would make a lovely art-gift for absolutely anyone who appreciates or just love music, especially a gift for someone who loves guitar!
Whether it be a guitar player in your life, or even a bass player, or any stringed instrument lover - There's something so sublime in the patterns and color it's sure to touch the heart of someone who feels music deep in their heart and soul.
